EnoughStop, I've had enough.
Can't you see,
tears streaming
down my face,
nose running,
makeup destroyed.
I'm a wreck,
haven't you hit me enough?
My eyes should be black,
my teeth should be loose.
How much does it take,
to snap my ribs,
to break them like my heart?
How much can I take,
how many times can I shatter?
When will you stop,
when will you be done?
Why do you do this,
over and over and over again?
How can you hurt the one
who loves you the most?
I'm only human,
I look in the mirror.
How do I stop beating myself up?
When will enough be enough?

Winter MagicJack Frost arrives,
his thousand or so pixies,
giggling and cheering.
Each one carrying
the tools of their trade.
Magic paint brushes,
miniature fans,
and fine tipped pens.
Positions taken,
they begin their work.
Painting the thin layer of frost,
on windowpanes,
on cars, trees,
and even blades of grass.
A starting canvas.
Others take clouds,
fans and pens in hand,
drawing the flakes
from the fluffy easels.
Gently they send
the finished projects to earth,
creating the gentle blanket of winter.
Covering the earth in
pristine beauty as it sleeps.
Quick as they come,
they vanish...
leaving only their work

SufferThe pain is constant,
in lingers,
it throbs,
it stabs.
And so I malinger,
unable to...
read,
write,
think,
move...
Daily it takes
so much out of me,
so much from me.
It never stops,
it never will.
As so, in silence,
I suffer...

MotherThe angel of life,
giving and protecting.
A teacher of language,
of right and wrong,
of social custom.
Nursing our hurts,
physical and emotional,
be they real or imaginary.
She expects the best of us,
and deals with our worst.
Hoping only for good things,
but dusting us off
when life gives us the worst.
Feeding our souls and hearts,
even as she feeds our bodies.
She drove us to games,
to school, to the mall.
Accepting our friends,
whether she liked them or not.
Every mother is perfect,
and yet each one is flawed,
by their blind love,
for us, their children.

New Year's EveA black velvet canvas,
stretched over twin hills.
Dark water below mirrors,
vibrant greens rivaling emeralds,
electric blues that mock sapphires,
fire reds shaming rubies.
Higher and higher,
whistles, pops and loud bangs,
fly up into the sky, exploding.
Lighting up the night with broad strokes
that linger for a moment,
then are gone...
replaced by the next.
Silver sparkles and shines,
while glittering gold shooting stars
reach the heavens,
never touching the earth.
A broad canvas,
exhilarating paint,
lasting a moment in the sky,
and forever in our hearts.

Her ObsessionRadiant circle,
silvered glass.
Holds more than
just her reflection.
Each window,
each mirror,
each still pool of water,
draws her attention.
She peers intently,
smoothing silken hair,
touching full lips,
caressing high cheekbones.
A voice speaks,
she waves them off,
staring into the small mirror,
held firm within her hand.
She cannot let a minute go,
without her obsessions.
Everything must be perfect,
she must stay this way,
watching herself
as long as possible.

The EvilMasqueraded, lurking behind,
fresh faced maiden.
Seeming so pure, so innocent.
None can see what's hidden.
An angel's smile with a demon's heart.
Her other ego, her darkness.
Red ribbons of blood,
bind them, one to another.
Who controls who?
Who is master,
and who is the puppet?
His weapon, her tool.
Make no mistake,
a symbiotic relationship.
Without the other,
both would die.
But who can know light,
without the dark,
who can know good,
without the evil?

AnguishThere is so much I want to say,
so much I feel I need to say.
And yet, words seem so hollow.
The simple elegance is tarnished,
the skill we once shared, weakened.

A chain has been broken.
Something precious, stolen.
I cannot find the rhyme or reason.
All I know is what was taken,
cannot be replaced, cannot be repaired.

I prayed, long and hard.
I wept, pleading, begging for a miracle.
Unfortunately it was not to be granted.
Perhaps a greater need elsewhere
called and took what was ours.

It is not easy, I cannot let go.
Even now, it is a harsh, cold dream,
stealing the warmth from my soul,
taking all the comfort

Good ByeIt still seems so hard for me to believe.
It's been almost a decade and an half,
a fortnight, only in years, rather than days.
Since I last heard your laugh,
last saw your smile.
Sharp humor, and a sharper tongue.
A heart of gold in a steel package.
My idol, who I so desperately wanted to please,
and so unerringly seemed to fail.
The adventurous one, the brash woman.
You never seemed to know fear,
you hid your sorrows well.
I only ever witnessed your joy,
your anger and your disappointment.
I didn't get to see you that one last time.
I never got to say goodbye, or that I loved you.

Ocean of PainVast, seemingly endless,
so wild and beautiful.
Teeming with life,
and yet as I stand here,
on the shore,
I can see none of it,
cannot feel damp sand,
squished between bare toes.
My ears are deaf to the cries,
of the gulls overhead,
of the seals off the shore.
Only the sound of my heart,
breaking and falling,
drowns out even the crashing waves.
Breakers have wiped out
the trace of my path,
no way back.
And I cannot find it
within myself to care.
You words destroyed it all...
all the hope,
all the love,
all the care,
I had held.
Unable to reach you,
unable to see you,
unable to change your mind.

Guardians of the LabyrinthEndless walls of stone,
built to last an eternity,
built to guard a treasure.
But even they are no guarantee,
and so I watch,
with my multitude of eyes.
Ever making sure,
no one dares to step foot,
into my domain,
into the labyrinth.
This is my destiny,
as it will be the destiny
of my young,
playing about my feet.
Learning the twists, turns
and dead-ends.
Committed to our memory,
and attuned to our surroundings.
The wards in place to guard that
which mortals would steal.
Somethings are not meant
for mortal hands,
for mortal eyes.
A treasure of the gods lays
at the heart of my labyrinth,
entrusted now to m

TightropeHigh above it all,
I teeter.
Under my feet,
the rope,
stretched so tight,
so little give.
Holding my breath,
closing my eyes.
It's not the height,
it's the fall I fear.
The rope is security,
no matter how tenuous.
The way things always are,
the way they've always been.
To fall, is to give in...
to you,
to something new,
something that shakes
the very core of me,
leaving me more breathless
than the height of the rope.
If I fall, it's a long way back...
if things fail,
if you hurt me.
And so I cling
to the tightrope,
to my life of solitude.
All the while,
staring at you below.

Jealousy Over JumpingYou never look before you leap,
just jump, headlong, into whatever
happens to cross your path.
It scares the hell out of me,
always afraid someday
you'll land flat on your face.
All the while, secretly,
a part of me really, really
wants to see that happen.
Not that I want you hurt,
I just want you to learn,
to be more cautious.
Each time you jump,
I worry it will be your last.
From guy to guy to girl and back,
from job to job,
place to place.
You claim it keeps you young,
on your toes all the time.
I worry it'll get you killed.
And at the same time,
I envy you.
You have freedom,
while I've locked my feet

Treasure HuntFaded ink, weathered parchment
leads to untold treasures.
Or so I'm told.
So many scoff at hearing,
"But I have the map!"
While others' eyes alight,
thinking of all the stories.
What pitfalls lie in store?
How many dangers must I face
before I see the prize?
How many have gone before?
What if someone's already
found and plundered it?
Will my search be in vain?
And if it's still there,
if no one's claimed it,
what will I find?
Golden goblets,
silver jewelry,
emeralds and diamonds,
ropes of pearls?
I can only dream,
as I stare at the map,
waiting to begin my adventure.

for that is what they are,
not wells, but pools
of your soul,
I could fall forever.

Unending Hunger

The pit of my stomach,
is hollow, empty.
Nothing fills it.
No food, no drink.
It lasts for days,
sometimes years...
And it seems as if all
I can do, is eat.
And eat, and eat,
trying to fill the hole,
trying to quell the pain.
It only satisfies a moment,
and then, I return,
to the fridge,
to the cupboard,
looking for solace,
looking for something
to make me whole,
but nothing works.
No matter what I eat,
I remain empty.
The hollowness inside,
eating me, instead.
